Just across the street is the beautiful Akureyri Junior College, founded in 1880, and the renowned Akureyri Botanical Garden, opened in 1912. Within a five minute walk are the town’s swimming pool (heated geothermally year-round), St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Akureyri Church (Lutheran), and the Akureyri Art Museum and Gallery. A few steps further and you’ll find yourself in midtown, full of small shops and cafés, and within a few short blocks, the harbor, the new Hof Culture and Conference Center, theater, historical society museum, and more. In the winter months, it is a short drive from the guest house to Akureyri’s Winter Sports Center, offering excellent downhill and cross-country skiing.
