Ange Leccia - La Mer/ The Sea at Akureyri Art Museum

1. January 2019

Ange Leccia
La Mer
December 8ᵗʰ 2018 - March 17ᵗʰ 2019

The French artist Ange Leccia was born in Corsica 1952. The nature of this unique island in the Mediterranean is a constant source of inspiration to him. La Mer is his best-known work, which he transforms time after time, adjusting it to each new situation. The work refers to eastern philosophy where human existence is compared to a fire that burns for a brief moment.

Early on Leccia began working with video-technique as an art form and adopting serial-methods – crossing borders between art forms. Like many contemporary artists, he uses pictures and music as his raw materials, selecting famous moments from western popular culture and cinema.

Leccia is the founder and director of the research center Pavillon Neuflize OBC in Palais de Tokyo, Paris. His work has been exhibited in many major art institutions around the world such as Dokumenta in Kassel, Guggenheim in New York, Skulptur Projekte in Münster, at the Venice Biennial and George Pompidou cultural center in Paris.

Curator: Æsa Sigurjónsdóttir.
