Iceland is situated in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, only about 3 hours flight from many European cities and about 6 hours flight from the east cost of the United States. There are several airlines providing flights to Iceland and some even fly directly to Akureyri. When arriving in the south the easiest way to get up north is by flying from the airport in Reykjavik to Akureyri, a 45 minutes flight. By car the rout takes about 4 hours.
Akureyri is a popular tourist destination for short or long visits. The town offers a wide range of activities and interesting places e.g. notable museums, the world's most northerly botanic garden, one of Iceland’s most popular swimming facilities, 18-hole golf course, the best skiing area in the country, good hiking trails and a free city bus.
