The walk starts at the gravel quarry on the highway between Ystuvík and Fagrabæjar. You walk up to Ystuvíkurfjall south of Hranárskarð, partly along the footpaths along the edge south to the cairn on the mountain. Then you walk north to Krædufell, from there down to Fagrabæjargil and up to Dýrðarnípa. Head north over Dýrðarbunga and onto Laufáshnjúk. The last 300 meters are a bit of a mess. Finally, you go down Laufáshnjúk where cars will be waiting, but you have to start ferrying cars there. The view of the mountains is vast and breathtakingly beautiful both to the south and to the north. Only part of the route is marked.
Distance in total 11-12 km. Ascent of about 1000 m.
