Play dough workshop at Amtsbókasafnið

Play dough workshop at Amtsbókasafnið

Play dough workshop for the whole family. All welcome!
On the occasion of the Children's Culture Festival in Akureyri, a clay workshop will be held at Amtsbókasafnið on April 20 from 2-4 p.m.

In the library´s cafeteria, occupational therapist Helga Sif Pétursdóttir and Sædís Steinólfsdóttir offer clay and all kinds of clay molds, tools and loose items. The clay is homemade from food and colored with natural substances and is therefore free of any additives.

The clay workshop is a family event where parents and children can have a good time together and let their creativity blossom. By having the whole family participate in an open and neutral space, the relationship between both parents and children as well as between siblings can be promoted.
Since the clay is safe to eat, the youngest generation that explores the world through their mouths can also participate. The floor will be covered with plastic and clay and objects offered that are safe for young explorers.

Playing with clay is classified as sensory play, but such games are of great benefit to children regardless of age as they can have a positive effect on hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, finger and hand strength and encourage critical thinking, but children learn better when different senses are activated at the same time.

The clay workshop is based on the philosophy of occupational therapy studies, where play is considered one of the most important activities for children, but through play children learn to develop motor, social and cognitive skills. We also look at the philosophy of Þorpsins - Tenglasetur, which aims, among other things, to promote good relationships between parents and children.

The project is funded by Akureyri's children's culture fund.

"We encourage you to attend the event in an environmentally friendly manner. The bus is free and all buses stop in the city center 300 meters from the library."
