The first Day of Winter

The First Day of Winter was this weekend, Saturday 23rd October.
In former days Iceland had a calendar that had its roots in the old Norse Calendar, which only had two seasons, “winter” and “summer.” This old tradition can still be found in our calendar.

Winterlike conditions are in most mountains like the one taken of Mt. Drangafjall on the First Day of Winter 2021 close to Akureyri while the lowlands are still snow free and temperatures above 0°C
