The Yule Lads, 13 different figures from Icelandic folklore, are the Icelandic version of Santa Claus. They reside in the North of Iceland, specifically in the area of Lake Myvatn, which is about a 1-hour drive from Akureyri. You can find a direct flight from London to Akureyri Airport in North Iceland with easyJet and meet these fun-loving tricksters who adore Christmas.

Children start placing a shoe in their bedroom window 13 days before Christmas. Every night, one Yule Lad visits, leaving sweets, small gifts, or even a potato, depending on how that particular child has behaved on the preceding day.
