First Day of Summer

23rd April is the Sumardagurinn fyrsti (First Day of Summer). This is an Icelandic public holiday marking the traditional start of summer, celebrated on the first Thursday after April 18.

The first Atlantic puffins were spotted today, April 9, after being seen just offshore yesterday. Today, sisters Unnur and Halla Ingólfsdætur spotted them in the cliffs south by the lighthouse.

easyJet Adjusts Schedule, Starts Winter Flights Early

The airline easyJet has decided to move its flights between Manchester and Akureyri to Mondays and Fridays instead of the previous Tuesdays and Saturdays. In addition, the flight schedule to Manchester next winter will start three weeks earlier than originally planned, on October 26.
