Humpbacks all year

The Icelandic National Broadcasting Service just published news about whales close to Akureyri, telling how the number of whales (in this case humpback whales) is rising in the fjord and that they are also staying during wintertime and even moving further and further into the fjord. This winter we have even had two humpbacks visiting the fjord area just in front of Akureyri.

This used to be unusual in earlier times but is quite common nowadays, making scientists wonder and undertaking research in order to find out why.
