Majó Food and Culture is an unusual restaurant located in Laxdalshús, the oldest house in Akureyri.
Majó is run by husband and wife Magnús Jón and Jónína Björg, who started the idea around their passion for food, art and hosting. Jónína Björg is a visual artist and has her artist studio in house.
Majó has a so-called “restaurant opening” a few times a month, the dates are advertised through their social media pages, as well as their website majoiceland.com.
The menu is a simple one, where everything is handpicked by the couple. Majó’s speciality is sushi and a varied six course menu that is available if ordered beforehand. They also welcome groups for dinner or courses in sushi making outside of advertised restaurant openings.
