The snowboard and music festival AK Extreme was held annually in late March or early April in Akureyri.
The festival has been on hiatus in recent years, and it remains uncertain whether it will be revived.
At the festival, Iceland’s top snowboarders showcase their skills, and popular musicians perform at Græni Hatturinn (The Green Hat). One of the festival’s main highlights is the Big Jump competition.
First held in 2002, the centerpiece of the festival is a snowboarding contest and exhibition that takes place in the town’s ravine (Kaupvangsstræti) on a custom-built snow ramp.
