The Anniversary of Akureyri Municipality is celebrated annually on the weekend closest to its establishment date, August 29. This vibrant celebration, known as Akureyrarvaka, features a rich program of cultural events, including exhibitions, visual arts, music, science, and more.
In 2026, the festivities will take place on August 28–29. The festival brings together locals and visitors alike to enjoy a diverse range of events and experiences that capture the spirit and creativity of Akureyri.
