Beauty of the Fjords

Beauty of the Fjords

Photo exhibition showing the beauty and fragility of Iceland's fjords

Trash from all over the world – our own and that of others – washes up on the shores of Iceland. It is estimated that 70% of all marine litter ends up in the ocean’s ecosystem, 15% floats at sea, and another 15% washes ashore.

BEAUTY OF THE FJORDS is a multifaceted collaborative project involving local communities around Siglufjörður, Ólafsfjörður, and Eyjafjörður, artists, and the Icelandic Coastal Culture Association – Vitafélagið. The aim is to encourage reflection and foster a sense of responsibility in how we treat the ocean and coastline.

From June 1st to October 1st, 2025, a wide range of events will take place, including educational activities, art workshops, performances, music, and visual arts, alongside photography and educational exhibitions in Siglufjörður, Ólafsfjörður, Dalvík, Svarfaðardalur, Hrísey, Hjalteyri, Akureyri, and Grenivík.

All photographs are taken by Veiga Grétarsdóttir.
