Hiking Week

Each summer hiking week is organized in addition to scheduled day tours and hiking tours on behalf Akureyri Touring Club and private organizers.

Each summer at least two hiking weeks are organized in addition to scheduled day tours and hiking tours on behalf Akureyri Touring Club and private organizers. The first week takes place in June and the second normaly in August. For more details www.ffa.is

Below is the program for the week 2022 - the program for 2023 will be added closer to the dates.

21. júní. Summer Solstice on Mt. Þengilhöfði

Departure at 21.00  in privat cars from the club office at Strandgata 23 in Akureyri.
Tourguide: Roar Kvam
From Akureyri participants drive in privat cars to the village Grenivík where the hike starts. From the village participant walk along a trail up the hill/mountain. The walk is sutiable for most people. The length of walk aprox 4 km. Elevation 260 m.
No fee for participation.

 

22. júní. Skjaldarvík - Gásir

Departure at 19.00  in privat cars from the club office at Strandgata 23 in Akureyri.

From Skjaldavík the hike goes along the scenic coastline of the fjord Eyjarfjörður towards the delta of Hörgá river. Diverse hiking terrain consisting of beaches, fields, tracks and wild grown coastline. Gásir by Eyjafjörður was a medieval trading place 11 km north of Akureyri,  the place is mentioned many times in Old Icelandic Sagas from the 13th and 14th centuries. Archaeological digging in the area has shown that it was a trading post until the 16th century when it may have been superseded by trading when started in Akureyri
The length of walk aprox 7 km. Almost non elevation.

23. júní. Kræðufell. Summer Solstice Walk 

Departure at 19.00 in privat cars from the club office at Strandgata 23 in Akureyri.

The walk starts from the parking lot in the mountainpass Víkurskarði and marked trail is followed to Mt. Ystuvíkurfjall where the walk continues to the north towards Mt Kræðufell.  From Mt. Kræðufell is good view over the fjord and towards the island Hrísey.
The length of walk 12 km. Elevation 400 m.

24. júní. Midsummernight walk to Mt. Múlakolla 

Departure at 20.00 in privat cars from the club office at Strandgata 23 in Akureyri.
Tourguide: Bernard Gerritsma and Bóthildur Sveinsdóttir
The walk starts from the old road Múlavegur, up the valley north of Brimnesá to the top of Mt. Múlakolla. Great view to all directions from the top.  The length of walk 8 km. Elevation 930 m.
Price ISK: 2.000/3.500. Included: Tourguide
