Bragi, Villi & Káinn – Satire, Sarcasm, and Laughter in the Living Room - in Icelandic

Do you have trouble smiling? Does laughter make you uncomfortable? Not really into poetry? Then this event is probably not for you.

On Saturday, November 15 at 3 PM, the humorists Bragi Valdimar Skúlason, Vilhjálmur B. Bragason, and Kristján Níels Jónsson (Káinn) will perform their own works.
Well — Káinn himself will not appear in person, having long since moved on to another plane of existence. But his poems live on and will be performed at the event. Káinn is sometimes referred to as Iceland’s first humor poet.

You’re a disgrace to your county,
A grimy kitchen plank,
Back and front and all around —
Nothing but a mouth!

These words, of course, do not apply to the other poets, Bragi and Vilhjálmur.

Bragi Valdimar Skúlason has written numerous song lyrics, poems, and verses — both for private enjoyment and public performance — and has translated and adapted many unlikely musicals, songs, and poems from various languages.

Vilhjálmur B. Bragason is an actor, poet, and entertainer. He received the Gríma Award for his role as Ketill Skræk in Skugga-Sveinn at the National Theatre of Akureyri and is well known as one half of the comedy duo Vandræðaskáld. His poetry and songs often have a humorous or satirical edge — or, at times, are simply joyfully indecent.

But who was Káinn?

Come and join us in the living room at Davíð’s House, where wit, sarcasm, and satire will be celebrated in good company.
