The memory of the legend, the singing star and the person Edith Piaf (1915-1963) is honored at this concert.
Piaf had an extraordinary life; she grew up among prostitutes and criminals in the shady neighborhoods of Paris, but made it to the big stages of the world's major concert halls, where she charmed the audience with her special voice and unique interpretation. Edith Piaf was a strong woman who was proud of her past and origins, and had many colorful love affairs that greatly influenced her and her musical performance.
Piaf is no stranger to Icelanders, musicals about her were staged at the Akureyri Theater Company in 1985 and at the National Theater in 2004 to great popularity. Piaf was known for songs such as La vie en rose(1946), Hymne à l'amour(1949), Milord(1959) and Non, je ne regrette rien(1960). Many more of her best known songs will be performed during this unforgettable moment.
The soloist is Erla Dóra Vogler, the Women's Choir Embla sings and selected instrumentalists play along under the direction of Roars Kvam.
