Jonna Jónborg Sigurðardóttir (b.1966) holds her exhibition Hlýnun í Hofi.
Jonna uses her art to draw attention to social issues. The works in the exhibition are non-traditional textile works that refer to the confusion and nonsense in our consumption and what is happening in the world. Catastrophic warming, melting glaciers and more. There are also sewage treatment plants and hysteria.
"My works are all made from recycled materials. I use fleeces and scraps of yarn that I have received from others and many things that would otherwise have ended up in the trash, I go so far as to weave together short mock-ups and make use of everything. The biggest part of my material is a large amount of very well knitted pieces that a resident of Hlíð, Herborg Kàradóttir knitted, but she suffered from Alzheimer's and died in 2021. I love being able to use her craft and make it mine. Finally, I encourage people to think about their consumption, you start with yourself," says Jonna.
Jonna graduated from the Art School in Akureyri in 1995 and from fashion design from København Mode and Design School in 2011. She has held numerous solo exhibitions and has been active in the art scene in Akureyri. Jonna à work in public domain.
