At this heartfelt and enchanting concert, timeless songs from various eras are interwoven with selections from musical theatre and film, performed by soprano Ragnheiður Ingunn Jóhannsdóttir and pianist Eva Þyri Hilmarsdóttir. The program is unified by a common theme — dreams and desires.
The concert will feature three newly commissioned works, composed earlier this year specifically for Ragnheiður and Eva Þyri by María Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir, Jóhann G. Jóhannsson, and Sigurður Sævarsson. Of course, classic Icelandic solo songs will also be included, such as pieces by Sigvaldi and Selma Kaldalóns, Jórunn Viðar, and Sigfús Einarsson, alongside art songs by composers like Grieg, Sibelius, Rachmaninov, and Schubert.
Eva Þyri will also perform two solo piano works: Träumerei by Robert Schumann and Liebestraum by Franz Liszt.
Ragnheiður and Eva Þyri are currently celebrating the 10th anniversary of their collaboration, which began in 2015 at the Reykjavík College of Music, where Ragnheiður was a student and Eva Þyri her accompanist. Their partnership continued at the Iceland University of the Arts and has since flourished through many ambitious soprano-piano projects. Together, they have performed at events such as the Summer Concert Series at the Sigurjón Ólafsson Museum, Musical Nourishment in Garðabær, Opera Days, Á ljúfum nótum at the Free Church, and most recently in the Tíbrá concert series at Salurinn in Kópavogur.
