Drive to Kröfluvirkjun, walk to Hrafntinnuhrygg and from there up to Krafla (827 m), which is an excellent viewpoint. Then the route goes down to Víti and to Þríhnúkur, where you can see Leirhnjúkur, from there you walk over lava to Kröflustöð.
Walk along paths and peatlands, the path is generally easy, although there may be some clay in parts of it.
