Roots - A Short History of Icelandic Folk Culture

Roots - A Short History of Icelandic Folk Culture

History exhibition in Kvosin

A history exhibition that will, in speech and music, examine the folk culture of Icelanders from the beginning of the settlement to the present day. It will tell about the development of national entertainment, which began with poetry in the bathhouse, tell about vikivaki that were held at vigils in the country's churches, and what impact folk instruments such as the accordion had on the nation's folk culture with the emergence of a new type of music and dance.

The exhibition is a collaborative project of Kvæðamannafélagið Gefjun, Dansfélagið Vefarinn, Þjóðháttarfélagið Handraðinn and Félag Harmonikuunnenda við Eyjafjörð.
