The bus takes walkers to Stekkjarhús in Skíðadalur valley, where the walk begins, and then picks them up at Barká in Barkárdal, where the walk ends. We walk to Skíðadalsá, where hikers are ferried across the river. The direction is taken straight up to Heiðinnamannadalur and continues into the valley until you reach the glacier and go up to Lambárskarð with the mountain Heiðingi on your right. From the pass, walk along the glacier with Hafrárhnjúkur on the right down Lambárdalur to the road at Barká where the bus is waiting.

Hiking elevation of about 1060 m.
