Päivi Vaarula and Ragnheiður Björk Þórsdóttir show woven textiles
Päivi Vaarula and Ragnheiður Björk Þórsdóttir open the exhibition TEKSTI – TEXTI in Mjólkurbúðinn, the Art association Space, at Kaupvangstræti 12 in Akureyri at 17.00 - 20.00, Friday April 14th. The exhibition lasts until April 23 and is open every day except Monday and Tuesday, from 14.00 - 17.00.
Päivi and Ragnheiður are both Textile artists, working mainly in weaving. Päivi is Finnish and they first exhibited together in Hämeenlinna in Finland last year and are exhibiting together for the first time in Iceland. The exhibition is called Teksti/Texti, but the word has the same meaning in Finnish and Icelandic. The word also stands for textile and weaving, but the word "texera" in Latin also means to weave. In this way, the weaving is meaningful, contains a message and tells a story. The works are all made this and last year. Päivi Vaarula is staying at Gilfélagin's guest studio in Akureyri in April.
