Condition for Northern lights are not always optimal. There are days where the sky is clear and all the wonders of the Auroras can be view but on others clouds can block the view even for strong Norther lights. In North of Iceland we are lucky to have many high mountains that help making a gap into the clouds, so then the thing is to find the right spot which can be tricky but those arranging tours are quite good at spotting.
