Join us as we celebrate Fishermen’s Day (Sjómannadagur), a cherished Icelandic tradition honoring the men and women whose lives and livelihoods are connected to the sea.

Throughout the weekend, communities around Eyjafjörður will come together to celebrate Iceland’s rich maritime heritage with family-friendly events, harbour activities, boat trips, seafood tastings, music, exhibitions, and ceremonies of remembrance.
In Akureyri, highlights include:
🐟 Seafood tastings and open fishermen’s huts at Sandgerðisbót
🚤 Boats and model ships on display
⚓ Demonstrations of traditional net mending and rope splicing
🌊 Memorial cruise aboard Húni II honouring those lost at sea
⛪ Fishermen’s Day service at Akureyrarkirkja
🚢 Boat parade and harbour cruises on Eyjafjörður
🎖️ Unveiling of a new memorial dedicated to side trawlers and their crews

Celebrations also take place in Hrísey and Grímsey islands.
