High above Akureyri, near Fálkafell, you’ll find the land art by Australian artist Andrew Rogers.
Created in 2006, Rhythms of Life (Lífstakturinn) is a huge stone geoglyph, approximately 100 × 100 metres, built from Icelandic volcanic rock. The work is part of Rogers’ global Rhythms of Life project, which explores humanity, life, history and our connection to the landscape.

But Fálkafell is only one of three monumental works Rogers created around Akureyri. The other two are:
🦅 The Eagle – inspired by Akureyri’s emblem and Icelandic mythology.
ᚾ The Rune – representing the Old Norse rune Nú, created on Vaðlaheiði across Eyjafjörður.

Together, the three works form a unique artistic presence in the landscape around Akureyri, connecting mountains, stones, history and contemporary art.

If you're exploring Akureyri and its surroundings, these monumental works offer a unique way to experience art — while hiking through the beautiful Icelandic landscape itself.
