July was unusually warm, especially in Northeast and East Iceland.
Nationally, this was the warmest July on record, tied with July 1933. It was particularly warm on the 14th, when temperatures reached 20°C or higher at around 70% of all weather stations. The month was also characterized by calm weather, with very little wind or storm activity.
In Akureyri, the average temperature was 13.5°C, which is 2.3°C above the 1991–2020 average, and 2.2°C above the average of the past ten years. This made it the second warmest July ever recorded in Akureyri (records since 1881), with only July 2021 being warmer, when the average temperature was 14.3°C.
