Autumn in North Iceland marks the season of réttir – the annual sheep roundup.
This traditional event, which took place in many areas around Akureyri this past weekend, is when farmers bring sheep down from their summer grazing in the mountains to the farms for winter.
Réttir is not only an important part of farming in Iceland but also a cultural tradition, where families, neighbors, and visitors come together to participate and observe. It remains a vivid expression of Icelandic rural life and community cooperation.
