Starting December 11, the mischievous Icelandic Santas, known as the Yule Lads (Jólasveinar), begin their festive visits! Children place a shoe in the window each night, and if they’ve been good, a small gift or treat appears by morning.
Each of the 13 Yule Lads has their own unique personality and quirky mischief, visiting one by one leading up to Christmas. Unlike the traditional Santa Claus, each Yule Lad has a funny or naughty habit—some steal food, others make noise, and some play tricks! This charming tradition brings excitement and holiday spirit to homes across Iceland.
Get ready—shoe by shoe, the Yule Lads are on their way! 🥿✨
