The ski area in Mt. Hlíðarfjall opens today at 15:00!

The moment has finally arrived — skiers can grab their gear and head to the mountain as the 2025–2026 ski season officially begins.
As Hlíðarfjall said in their announcement:
“The wait is over! We’re excited to welcome you to the first day of the 2025/2026 winter season in Hlíðarfjall!”

A fantastic day is ahead with –4°C and light winds at 1–2 m/s — perfect conditions to enjoy the slopes!
The area has been groomed, with fresh snow packed into the trails.

Don’t miss out on this great winter day!

Open areas:

  • Lower area with Fjarki, Hólabraut, Auður, and the magic carpet.

NOTE: The Stromplyfta lift is closed above Strýtuskáli, as well as the slopes above that point. Snow cover is very thin in many places, and avalanche risk may be present under certain conditions. Groomers have been working in the area, and deep holes or tracks may pose hazards.

Cross-country trails (XC):

  • 1.2 km and 3.5 km trails are open.

Please note:
Respect all signs and closures. There is little to no snow outside groomed trails, making conditions dangerous. Trails are not at full width yet, so please share the space and be mindful of others.

We look forward to seeing you on the mountain!
