The Aviation Museum in Akureyri was founded on May 1st 1999 and formally opened June 24 2000. The story of aviation in Iceland is traced right up to the present time. Numerous photographs and detailed text present a realistic and interesting account of pilots in their everyday activities. And where pictures and imagination end, concrete reality takes over. The museum contains many types of aircraft; for example, a plane of the same kind as the first aircraft in the possession of Loftleiðir Airline as well as Iceland's oldest ambulance aeroplane and the first glider built in Akureyri 1937.
