Berglind Jóna Hlynsdóttir (born 1979) completed a BA degree in visual arts at Iceland University of the Arts 2006, an MA at Valand School of Fine Art in Sweden 2010 and is currently working towards her PhD in Iceland. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions and collaborative projects, and held numerous solo exhibitions.

Hlynsdóttir has developed an approach to artmaking through practice, which entails bringing to light specific and hidden aspects of phenomena. It entails thinking of artworks and research as vacuums that suck up and help shape what she refers to as shadow materials.

Here, she creates a Shadow Material Vacuum using the artwork Concert by Þorvaldur Þorsteinsson (1998), collecting fragments, storylines, and micro histories from its production, as well as residues and traces accrued from its travels and storage. It is in this state of a missed event, being outside of, in the shadow of a moment, that Berglind begins to gather the material that lingers in the shade of this artwork.
