Dr. Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, former President of Iceland and Professor of History at the University of Iceland, visits the Law Forum at the University of Akureyri.
Date: Wednesday, November 5
Time: 12:30–14:00
Location: M102 and live stream
Guðni will give a lecture titled: “Why is it no longer possible to amend the Constitution of the Republic?”
Áslaug Ásgeirsdóttir, Rector of the University of Akureyri, will open the event and deliver the welcoming remarks.
The forum will be chaired by Davíð Þór Björgvinsson, Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Akureyri.
In his lecture, Guðni will discuss the efforts to amend Iceland’s Constitution that have been underway since the beginning of this century but now appear to have stalled. He will explore why this has happened and consider possible future developments in this area.
Following the lecture, there will be an open discussion, and Guðni will respond to questions and comments from the audience.
The forum is open to everyone, and residents of Akureyri and nearby areas are especially encouraged to attend in person at the University of Akureyri.
