Clara de Cápua solo exhibition at Mjólkurbúðin

Brazilian artist Clara de Cápua opens the exhibition Allar ár eru sama áin (All rivers are the same river) on July 18th at Mjólkurbúðin – Salur Myndlistarfélagsins in Akureyri.

The exhibition features works in painting, video, drawing, printmaking, and photography, created between 2020 and 2025, centered around the memory of her father. It explores themes such as absence, continuity, and reinvention. The river waters and other nautical elements present in the exhibition evoke childhood memories from the artist’s upbringing in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Among the works shown, the painting series “Knots” visually explores physical and symbolic knots — those tangled in objects and emotional bonds. Beyond evoking memory, the rivers in the exhibition’s title also allude to the passage of time.

Clara de Cápua (Jaú, 1984) is a multidisciplinary Brazilian artist whose work spans performing and visual arts. She currently lives in Portugal, where she pursues a PhD research at FBAUP supported by FCT (2024.00306.BD). She holds a Master’s degree in Arts (2010) and a Bachelor’s degree in Performing Arts (2005), both from UNICAMP, Brazil. Her work often addresses processes of disappearance and the tension between presence and absence in the image. In 2024, she held the solo exhibition “Disappearance” in Porto, Portugal. She has participated in group shows including the Boreal Screendance Festival (Iceland, 2024), the "XXII International Biennial of Cerveira" (Portugal, 2022), and "Paadmaan Video Event #2" (Iran, 2021).
