Anniversary Exhibition in the Sports Hall
Saturday, April 25, 13:00–14:30
The Andrés Games were first held in 1976 and celebrate their 50th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, a special anniversary exhibition will be held at the Akureyri Sports Hall on Saturday, April 25 from 12:00–13:30, where the history of the games will be revisited through photos, interviews, and archival material from past years.
The exhibition will feature a photo display curated by Hörður Geirsson, curator at the Akureyri Museum. The images reflect the history of the games over the past 50 years, as well as their development and growth. A documentary film will also be shown, with text by Hermann Sigtryggsson and Kristrún Lind Birgisdóttir, featuring photographs by Hörður.
Interviews with Ívar Sigmundsson, former chairman of the Akureyri Ski Club and former director of Hlíðarfjall, and Fjalar Úlfarsson, current chairman of the Andrés Games committee, will be presented. Visitors will also be able to view newspaper clippings and other materials that shed light on the history and evolution of the games.
The exhibition is open to everyone, but former participants, families, and volunteers of the Andrés Games are especially encouraged to attend, reminisce, and celebrate this important milestone together. Many skiers have fond memories from the games, and it is not uncommon to see former participants returning with their own children. Most—if not all—of Iceland’s top skiers began their competitive careers at the Andrés Games.
The event is organized by the Akureyri Ski Club. More information can be found on their website www.skidi.is and on the Andrés Games Facebook page (facebook.com/andresarleikar).
