Bunnyverse Company offers a creative dance workshop for children aged 7–10, led by dance artists Leevi Mettinen and Sóley Ólafsdóttir. The workshop does not focus on a specific dance style, making it suitable for all children, whether they have prior dance experience or not. The concept is rooted in the performance and artistic ideas of the dance performance Kanlínudans.
The workshop is taught in both English and Icelandic and lasts one hour. Participants are guided through playful activities and flowing movement in a search for each child’s own dancing bunny. In the philosophy of Kanlínudans, patterns of thinking appear as choreographic compositions, and during the workshop participants explore how thoughts, ideas, and movement connect, through a variety of exercises.
In Kanlínudans, the bunny characters Leynir and Læða represent two different aspects of the brain: the fast part and the slow part (Thinking Fast and Slow). Throughout the workshop, Leevi and Sóley work with both approaches through improvisation and choreography exercises. At the end of the session, they teach a special bunny dance inspired by movements from the performance, and everyone dances together!
Dance artists Leevi Mettinen from Finland and Sóley Ólafsdóttir from Iceland both hold a BA degree from the Contemporary Dance Department at the Iceland University of the Arts. They work as independent dancers and choreographers while also creating and producing their own work.
Leevi and Sóley produce dance performances for children under the name Bunnyverse Company, building on the successful journey of their first work, Kanlínudans (2024). They have also led similar workshops as part of the Sequences Art Festival in 2025 and within the children’s and family program at Dansverkstæðið earlier this year.
