In icelandic.
The Sjöundármál is one of the most famous criminal cases in Icelandic history, where Bjarni Bjarnason and Steinunn Sveinsdóttir were sentenced to death for murdering their spouses, Jón and Guðrúna. These people have been described many times from the point of view of the authorities.
The perspective is unusual in the book Death Doom by Steinunni Kristjánsdóttir. In it, the convict, Bjarni Bjarnason from Sjöundá, himself tells about his life, while his life course is connected to the spirit of the 18th century. The narrative ends with Bjarna's execution in Kristiansand, Norway.
Dr. Steinunn Kristjánsdóttir, professor of archeology at the University of Iceland, reads selected parts of the book based on her research on executions after the Reformation in Iceland. Steinunni is followed by the prize-winning books Sagan af klaustrinin á Skriðu (2012) and Leitin ag klausrunun (2017), published by Sagofélag. Then Routledge published her book Monastic Iceland (2023). The university publishing house publishes the book Daudadómurinn.
