Hike from Fremstafell in Kinn to Barnafoss, then continue along the Skjálfandafljót river.

Drive to Fremstafell in Kinn. From there, the hike goes to Barnafoss, then continues along a forest trail beside the Skjálfandafljót river. The route ascends slightly to Fellið and follows its northern edge. The hike ends at Ljósvetningabúð, where the cars were left. If weather permits, an optional ascent to Ytri-Hnjúkur is possible. Along the way, hear stories about the area and enjoy spectacular views — from Kinnarfell, there are panoramic views in all directions, including over the Skjálfandafljót river and Ullarfoss.
Notes:
No drinking water is available along the route.
Cars need to be self-shuttled between Fremstafell and Ljósvetningabúð.
If the weather and visibility are good, it may be possible to skip the car shuttle and hike back south along Fellið to Fremstafell.
