“With her art, Sara Sif creates a world that is a mix of being mystic, captivating and just uncomfortable enough. A world where life and death live together in questionable harmony”
- Vala Hauksdóttir, poet.
Sara Sif Kristinsdóttir was born on the 3rd of february 1992 in Blönduós, Iceland. She grew up in Selfoss and now lives in Akureyri. She has studied art in Iceland and Denmark, has held a number of solo exhibits and been a part of several joint exhibitions.
Sara started drawing as a young child and you could say that was her first love. When she got accepted into the Akureyri School of Visual Arts she was introduced to oil paint which consumed her. Now she uses her drawing skills and knowledge to create all kinds of different but interconnected worlds with her oil paintings. The past few years she has started to expand her works with lino prints. Nature, darkness, death, light and life itself spin together in visuals meant to bring the viewer to question their own life and feelings. Uncomfortableness is an important aspect of life and with her work, Sara tries to bring up certain uncomfortable feelings in the viewer by mixing together mushrooms, people, animals and other plants, creating a symbiotic state between different beings that shouldn't work together.
