We drive to the entrance of Gæsadalur and from there walk into the valley, crossing the scree slopes east of the river and then ascending out of the valley on the eastern side. Once on top, we visit a small crater with a beautiful mountain lake, then continue to the summit of Gæsafjöll, which offers one of the best viewpoints over the Þingey highlands.
From the summit, the route descends into Skessuskál and then returns to the cars.
