Tour guide: Brynjar Karl Óttarsson
A group of people interested in the protection of war relics in Eyjafjörður has been investigating the activity area of the sit-in team in Eyjafjörður for some time. Various interesting artefacts have come to light that shed light on the daily life and work of soldiers during the war years. Recent discoveries of Melgerðismel have caught the attention of a family in Arkansas, USA. John Kassos, an American pilot who stayed at Melunum in the summer of 1942, died when his P-39 Airacobra fighter plane crashed in Raudhúsahól.
Brynjar Karl Óttarsson will walk with enthusiasts in the footsteps of the young pilot at Kassos Field. Bragg foundations will be examined and the place where John crashed his machine with the aforementioned consequences. If there is time, we will stop at Hrafnagili, where the garrison operated a military hospital.
