Helgi skoðar heiminn (Helgi explores the world)
Children born in 2017 and 2018 in the Engjarós department in Kidagil kindergarten have during the spring term done theme work based on the book "Helgi skoðar heiminn" by Njörð P. Njarðvík and Halldór Pétursson. The book is about Helgi, who lives in the countryside and goes on a day trip to explore the world around the farm and the fields. He rides the mare Fluga and is accompanied by the dog Kátur. The world is big and on the way there will be fish, birds, reindeer and creatures in lava. They come to a river, wetlands, a mountain, a river and lava, and have a big adventures along the way.
At the beginning, the book was read and discussed about the material and content, and it was decided to create a visual work that shows Helgi's world from the perspective of the children. Every week the book was opened, it was re-read and the pictures looked at, and then the children created what was on the pages as they thought it should be. When the book was finished and Helgi's world was created, the works were arranged into a whole. Egill Jónsson, an artist, also came to the kindergarten and created a piece of music for the theme with the children, creating an exciting world of sounds with the artwork.
Sea
Students at Smári in Kidagil kindergarten were born in 2018-2019. They have been working on the theme of "The Sea". They have been introduced and educated on various things related to the ocean, such as e.g. the sea, marine vegetation, various animals that live in the sea and boats. We go over the characteristics of the animals (shape, color and size), where in the sea the animal is, we have played the animal and had various fun facts. They have also looked at pictures and videos of the subject, prepared various animals out of paper and reusable materials, and visited ÚA and looked at the oak boat Húni II.
We are collaborating with the artist Egill Jónasson. Students at Smára made a story about the sea, took pictures and Egill helped us to record the story and sound for the it.
