The Russian invasion into Ukraine on February 24th, 2022, marked the beginning of a big trauma for Europe. In this exhibition, war is studied through the eyes of artists from different countries, where art becomes a scene for experience, memories and emotions that are influenced by conflicts.

The works evoke pain, fright and a longing for peace, but also show us how war can both divide and unite. Ukrainian artists share stories of pain, hope and persistence, while Icelandic artists mostly reflect on a different experience. French and Danish works evoke memories which can also be based on older refractions, Dutch work connects past and present and a Lithuanian artist reflects on life under constant threats from across the border.

Together the works show us how art can mirror, process and protest war. The exhibition is a reminder of a fragile peace and opens on communication, solidarity and empathy, as well as our shared responsibility for our history.
