James Merry is a visual artist from the UK, now based in Iceland where he has lived and worked for the last decade. He is primarily known for his hand embroidery and mask-making, and as a frequent collaborator with Björk on her visual output. He has collaborated with entities such as the V&A, Gucci, The Royal School of Needlework, Tim Walker, Tilda Swinton and Iris van Herpen.

The exhibition at Akureyri Art Museum showcases three new headpieces by James, each inspired by a specific Romano-Celtic archaeological site in the UK. The works offer a contemporary interpretation of Iron Age priestly regalia, providing an insight into Merry´s fascination with this particular period in history, and the area where he grew up in the southwest of England. The original masks will be displayed alongside additional imagery and documentation of their creation.
