The window exhibition The Wedding Celebration (Brúðkaupsveislan) will be on display at Hafnarstræti 88 from August 27 to September 17 as part of Akureyri Town Festival. The theme of the exhibition is weddings, romance, and joy. Artists and sisters Áslaug and Brynja Harðardætur Tveiten are presenting the exhibition at Brynja’s studio.

To celebrate love and affection even further, everyone is welcome to an informal outdoor wedding on Saturday, August 29 at 3:00 PM. The wedding is not affiliated with any religion and has no legal formalities or rules.

This is a group ceremony where participants can “marry” themselves and whatever brings joy, love, and happiness into their lives. The ceremony is an encouragement to treat yourself with care — a declaration of love and intention to nurture yourself and the things that bring color to your life.

Those who wish can bring something symbolic to the ceremony and dress up for the occasion. Traditional black and white, or simply whatever suits your mood, the weather, and the day.

Brynja will lead the ceremony with the help of her sister Áslaug and ceramic artists Anita Guttesen and Hrönn Brynjarsdóttir, who also work at the studio.

Please note that you can arrive half an hour before the ceremony to make your own bridal veil on site and receive a flower for your lapel, while supplies last.
