The bus takes participants to Finnastaðir, from where the hike begins up Kerling (1,538 m), the highest mountain in inhabited Iceland. Then continue north along the peaks: Hverfandi (1,320 m), Þríklakkar (1,360 m), Bóndi (1,350 m), Litla Krumma, Stóra Krumma, Syðri-Súla (1,213 m), Ytri-Súla (1,143 m), descending into Glerárdalur, where participants’ cars are waiting.
This is a challenging hike, rated as a four-boot trek. Participants must be in good physical condition. The hike may take up to 13 hours, depending on the group, terrain, and weather. Participants should dress according to the conditions and bring hearty, energy-rich food for the day, as well as enough water, since it may not be available along the route. In such demanding terrain, crampons and ice axes are essential safety equipment, which will be indicated by the guides closer to the date.
