Let's play langspil - traditional Icelandic instrument

Want to try a the traditional Icelandic instrument langspil?

The langspil is a traditional Icelandic musical instrument that is accessible to everyone.

In this workshop, children and parents will learn the fundamentals of playing the langspil, including strumming and plucking using swan feathers and horsehair bows.

Participants will also explore the langspil in its historical and international context and learn a few pieces, which will be performed together at the end of the workshop.

Langspil playing is a musical form open to all, regardless of musical education or background. No prior training is required to produce sound, and the instrument lends itself to a wide range of musical expression.

The workshop is led by singer and langspil expert Eyjólfur Eyjólfsson.
