Aðalsteinn begins with six canvases, each in one of the colors of the rainbow, along with a half-finished painting.
During the exhibition period, the canvases—as well as the unfinished painting—will be worked on. This will be an unprepared act of creation. There the artist stands before his works, visible to anyone passing by the exhibition space.
Is this art in the making, or merely a desperate performance by a misguided individual?
The performance can be viewed day and night through the wonderful windows of Mjólkurbúðin, and visitors are welcome to stop by while the artist is at work. Aðalsteinn then invites guests to a closing event on Sunday, November 16, from 15:00 to 17:00.
Aðalsteinn Þórsson was born in 1964 in Akureyri. In 1989, he began studying at the Akureyri School of Visual Arts. He completed his MFA at the Dutch Art Institute, ArtEz (then Aki2) in Enschede, the Netherlands, in 1998. Aðalsteinn has worked as a visual artist ever since—first in the Netherlands, and since 2016 based in Iceland.
He has held numerous solo exhibitions, participated in group shows and events, and also worked as a curator. Aðalsteinn has been active in cultural affairs as well, but his main project is Einkasafnið (The Private Museum), an environmental art project he runs in a green oasis on the Kristnes property, about 10 km south of Akureyri. In addition, he continues to draw and paint whenever time allows.
