Daníel Bjarnason conducts the North Iceland Symphony Orchestra in performances of two of Johannes Brahms’ most beloved works: Symphony No. 1 and the Double Concerto for Violin and Cello.

Brahms is often considered one of the three great “B’s” of music history — Bach, Beethoven and Brahms — and thus ranks among the most influential composers in Western music.

The soloists in the Double Concerto are married couple Guðbjartur Hákonarson, violinist, and Hrafnhildur Marta Guðmundsdóttir, cellist. Guðbjartur has performed extensively across Europe and the United States. His work has included performances with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Danish Opera Orchestra, the Danish Radio Orchestra and the Copenhagen Philharmonic.

Many will remember Marta’s magnificent performance in Harpa’s Eldborg concert hall when the North Iceland Symphony Orchestra performed Joker – Live to Film in honour of Hildur Guðnadóttir, following her Grammy, Oscar and Emmy wins. It could be said that Marta grew up alongside the North Iceland Symphony Orchestra, as she is the daughter of Guðmundur Óli Gunnarsson, who conducted the orchestra for 23 years.
