From Mountains to Favelas is a music and cultural project that brings together Brazilian jazz and Icelandic musical life in an innovative way.

Four musicians from North Iceland have joined forces: guitarist and vocalist Guito Thomas and drummer and percussionist Rodrigo Lopez, who both live in Fjallabyggð; vibraphone and keyboard player Ludvig Kári Forberg, who lives in Akureyri; and electric bass player Guðni Bragason, who is based in Húsavík. They are also joined by two female vocalists, Ágústa Jenný Forberg and Maya Maricato Lopez, who are daughters of two of the band members.

The concert will feature Brazilian music in a variety of styles, with a diverse programme ranging from music of the 1950s to the present day.

The concerts can be seen as a continuation of a study trip to Nazaré, Brazil, in June 2025. A group from the Akureyri School of Music attended the 4th Brazilian Music Camp, led by Rodrigo Lopez. The trip was a great success in every way and had a profound impact on everyone who took part.

These will be light-hearted and enjoyable concerts that everyone can appreciate.
