Rebekka Kühnis opens her exhibition „Fleeting“ Friday, October 18th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. The exhibition will feature new paintings of her unique interpretation of icelandic nature as well as some of her drawings from previous years.
Rebekka Kühnis was born in 1976 in Windisch, Switzerland. She studied at the Hochschule der Künste in Bern, where she earned a master’s degree in Art & Education. She has since worked as an artist and teacher, participating in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Switzerland and Iceland.
As Rebekka began exploring Iceland on foot through many hiking trips, the impressions and sensations she experienced gradually found their way into her art until Icelandic landscape became her primary subject.
In 2015 she moved to Akureyri where she has been living and working since.
About her work she says: “I have always felt a need to artistically dissolve my environment or at least to transform it into something less rigid, lighter, more ambiguous.
In Icelandic nature I found, in contrast to my country of origin, something pristine, less defined, less determined. As if everything around me was vibrant, in process of transformation and me being a part of it. I perceive a constant transformation of everything and enjoy the lightness that comes with this realisation.“
